2010 Sunshine State Survey
Floridians say having new people move to the state is a good thing
Jobs, jobs, jobs, and integrity in leaders is what citizens want most
Despite the worst economy in their lifetimes, Floridians overwhelmingly believe their home state is a good place to live and are welcoming out of state friends and relatives to become their neighbors, according to new findings by the Leadership Florida/Nielsen Company 2010 Sunshine State Survey, released today. For the first time in the survey’s history, the majority (60%) of Floridians now say that new people moving to Florida is more positive than negative, and now more than ever, would advise a friend or relative to move to the Sunshine State, with positive responses up 10 points from the previous poll.
And yet, Florida adults remain focused on the economy and jobs at more than twice the intensity of 2006 and 2007. With Floridians out of work more now than ever in the state’s modern history, the survey found a staggering 85% disapproval rating of the state government’s effectiveness in creating jobs. However, the survey also found residents understand the need to invest in economic development, and 69% of them favor giving incentives to businesses to encourage them to expand or relocate to Florida.
When asked what trait is most important for a leader to have, nearly 50% said Integrity. More
