Biography
Dr. Alice E. Barfield has served as Superintendent of Glades County Schools since 2020, leading the district through academic growth and transformation. Under her leadership, the district earned a "B" grade for the first time in over a decade—a testament to her commitment to educational excellence, equity, and systemic reform.

Before becoming Superintendent, Dr. Barfield was a Turnaround Principal, focused on improving underperforming schools in rural, underserved communities. She is passionate about ensuring that low-income students receive equitable access to high-quality education and opportunities for personal success.

Dr. Barfield holds a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and a Master’s in Educational Leadership. She is also a proud graduate of the prestigious Harvard Superintendents Leadership Program, which she credits for enhancing her strategic vision and deepening her commitment to innovative leadership in public education.

Her academic and professional work centers on strategic planning, educational reform, and driving sustainable change in challenged school districts.

Beyond education, she is an entrepreneur, owning a wedding venue and operating a watermelon farm in South Florida. Married to Thomas for over thirty years, she is the proud mother of three and grandmother of one.
