Biography
A native of Tallahassee, Alva most recently served as the executive director of the Stoops Center of Law & Business at the FSU College of Law. Additionally, she was re-elected to her third term on the Leon County School Board in 2022. Previously, she served as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend, where she led the agency to over 40% growth, ranking her agency in the top 20 for agency growth among the 217 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide.
A graduate of Florida State University, Alva holds a degree in marketing and is an alumna of Alpha Delta Pi. Prior to election and joining Big Brothers Big Sisters, she was a math teacher at Deerlake Middle School. Alva is an appointed member of the Value Adjustment Board and is a graduate of Leadership Tallahassee Class 34. Alva and her husband, George Smith, are the parents of six.
