Biography
Carlos was born in New Jersey and raised in Miami in a single-family household with an absent father. In Miami, Carlos was exposed to many of the challenges and issues that kids face today – poverty, drugs, and crime. His energy and focus changed when he joined karate. As he grew in the art of karate, he realized that he could make a difference in his community by introducing karate to youth who were growing up in a similar environment and circumstances to what he had.
Carlos obtained his master’s degree in counseling from Nova University. In 2014, Carlos was introduced to AMIkids at a community resource fair. Over the past six years, Carlos has worked at multiple sites and in multiple program models within AMIkids. As an active member in the community, Carlos currently is a member of the Citizens Review Board for the City of Tampa. In 2018, he was appointed by State Attorney Andrew H. Warren to serve on the State Attorney’s Advisory Council.
