Biography
Joseph Conner has been a teacher in Sarasota County for 12 years. He began his teaching career in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, which had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Moving to Sarasota County, Joseph taught at a second-chance school and at a special day school serving students who were not successful in the traditional school setting. For the last 10 years, Joseph has been a math teacher working with middle school students both as a lead teacher and co-teacher working with students with disabilities. He currently teaches Algebra 1 Honors and Geometry Honors to 7th and 8th grade students.

Originally from Colorado, Joseph earned a degree in Philosophy from the University of Northern Colorado. He received his Master of Arts Degree in Teaching from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.

He is the Math Department Chair and chairs the School Advisory Committee and Schoolwide Decision-Making Team. He recently completed the Algebraic Reasoning Micro-Credential through the University of Florida.

Joseph was selected as the Sarasota County Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2023. He received a Time Fellowship from the Barancik Foundation in 2024.

He believes that every student truly wants to learn and can therefore learn at a high level. It just takes a teacher to provide the relationship, the environment, and to tap into that desire and inspire learning to happen.

Joseph lives in Venice, Florida, with his wife Tiffaney, and their golden doodle Zoe.
