Biography
Dr. Stephen P. Covert is Principal of Pine View School, Florida’s top-ranked public school and a national leader in advanced education. With over 32 years of service in education, he has held leadership roles including Assistant Superintendent, Executive Director of Human Resources, and Principal in Virginia before relocating to Sarasota in 2013. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida, teaching educational leadership, school law, school finance, the principalship, and using data to improve school programs and performance.
Dr. Covert holds a Ph.D. in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, administrative certifications from VCU and the Central Virginia Leadership Academy, and professional studies certificates from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. A certified mediator, he’s also presented nationally on gifted education and educational trends.
A committed community leader, Dr. Covert serves on multiple nonprofit boards and has overseen more than $35 million in campus construction projects. He lives in Sarasota with his wife, a longtime elementary teacher. Together they have four children and enjoy family, volunteering, and serving their community.
