Southwest Region - "but for" Band Burrowing Owls!
Marco Island
Event Details
Join Leadership Florida on beautiful Marco Island for a hands-on conservation adventure—banding Florida’s charismatic burrowing owls! These pint-sized owls stand just 9 inches tall and make their homes underground, often blinking curiously from their sandy burrows. This burrowing owl program, hosted by Audubon Western Everglades, not only helps provide safe harbor for individual owls, but it also allows scientists to monitor populations and protect nesting sites for future generations.
During registration, there are multiple sessions available. Each session accommodates up to 5 participants, so spots are limited! Expect a fun, educational, and meaningful morning outdoors supporting a species that’s both quirky and vital to Florida’s ecosystem.
Time: 7:00 AM (meeting time may shift by 30 minutes depending on sunrise)
Dates (select during registration):
Sat, Feb 7 | Wed, Feb 11 | Mon, Feb 16 | Wed, Feb 18 | Sat, Feb 21 | Sat, Feb 28

Parking: Carpooling is recommended but not required. Street parking available at field location. If carpooling, it is suggested to meet at Mackle Park to park all vehicles and drive to site in a single vehicle.
