Biography
Melissa is a public servant, entrepreneur, and community advocate committed to building a prosperous Lauderhill where families, seniors, young people, and businesses can thrive. She serves as a City Commissioner in Lauderhill, Florida, where her work focuses on health access, economic mobility, environmental stewardship, community safety, small business development, and quality-of-life improvements.
Raised in Jamaica by her grandmother, she immigrated to the United States at age ten and later lived across the American South and Europe as part of a military family. These experiences shaped her service-driven approach to leadership and her commitment to expanding opportunity for residents.
Melissa holds an MBA and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Science from Judson College. She is the Founder and CEO of MD Marketing & Consulting, former President of the Lauderhill Regional Chamber of Commerce, and hosts the DunnWisdom Morning Show as a Certified Ontological and Mindfulness Coach.
She also founded the Hibiscus Girls Leadership Academy, which empowers young women through leadership development, civic engagement, college exposure, and scholarships. She co-founded the Lauderhill Health and Prosperity Partnership to improve community health and economic mobility.
