Accounting Intern

Part-time (20 hours per week)

Internship Summary: The Accounting Intern serves as an assistant to the finance management team of Leadership Florida. This critical position touches nearly every aspect of this statewide nonprofit's day-to-day accounting functions with an emphasis on collections and accounts receivable.


The ideal candidate will have knowledge or experience in handling a range of accounting and administrative support-related tasks. They must be able to work efficiently and independently with little or no supervision, as well as work with other staff members. This person must be able to communicate well and have excellent customer service skills. They must also be exceedingly well organized, flexible, and enjoy problem-solving.

  • Accounting software knowledge – should be able to navigate accounting and database software efficiently as well as create Excel spreadsheets for data analysis

  • Cooperation – pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude
  • Initiative – willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges
  • Adaptability/Flexibility – open to change and considerable variety in the workplace

Requirements:

  • Experience with QuickBooks accounting and database management software
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel

Duties:

  • Use QuickBooks accounting & Novi AMS membership software to record, store, and analyze information
  • Verify transactions such as postings, membership records, journal entries, and bank reconciliations for completeness and mathematical accuracy, and account codes
  • Prepare bank deposits by verifying and balancing receipts, and sending cash, checks, or other forms of payment to banks
  • Receive, record, and bank cash, checks, and credit card payments
  • Calculate, prepare, and issue bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements according to established procedures
  • Follow up on accounts receivable collection as deemed necessary
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Track all donations and registration payments within membership software and prepare donation letters when necessary
  • Work with staff and management in providing accurate and timely information.

Compensation: $14.00 per hour
