Leadership Florida Presents Ken Pruitt with 2026 LeRoy Collins Lifetime Achievement Award

Announcements,

Before the House and Senate chambers and the statewide recognition, Ken Pruitt was simply ‘Kenny’ — a hardworking water well driller from the Treasure Coast. Rising before dawn, operating heavy equipment under the Florida sun, he learned firsthand the values of grit, integrity, and service to working families and communities.

For nearly two decades in the Florida Legislature — first in the House and then in the Senate — Ken Pruitt earned the deep trust and respect of his colleagues across the aisle. This was evident when his peers unanimously chose him to become President of the Florida Senate. He earned bipartisan respect as the Father of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, creating life-changing access to higher education for over a million Florida students and families.

A dedicated champion for youth, he strongly supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County — with a facility now bearing his name — because he believed every child deserves guidance and opportunity. At the same time, Ken stood as a fierce guardian of Florida’s precious natural resources and the rights of its people. Ken fought to protect Florida’s waterways from Lake Okeechobee to the Indian River Lagoon. He also defended private property rights through landmark legislation like the Bert J. Harris Act.

Through every high-stakes battle and hard-won victory, Ken remained grounded by what mattered most: his loving wife Aileen, their wonderful children and grandchildren, and a life deeply rooted in faith, resilience, and unconditional love.  Together, Ken and Aileen faced life’s greatest challenges side by side — most powerfully during Aileen’s courageous battle with breast cancer. With grace, strength, and unwavering faith, she turned her fight into purpose, serving as a powerful advocate for cancer awareness, early detection, and support for patients and families while serving as First Lady of the Florida Senate. Her courage and advocacy inspired countless Floridians and deepened the Pruitt family’s commitment to service.  His family was — and remains — his bedrock and guiding force, reminding him daily that true leadership begins at home.

Ken Pruitt’s legacy will forever live on in the students who reached college, the young lives he mentored, the families he empowered, and the natural treasures he helped preserve.

"Ken is not just a distinguished public servant, but a man who continues to lead with humility, fights with purpose, and serves with his whole heart — for the Treasure Coast, for all of Florida, and for all of us." says Kate Cotner, a Leadership Florida Connect Class 12 Lifetime Member from the Gulfstream Region. Kate is the Director of Community Engagement at Florida Power & Light.

Congratulations to Ken Pruitt, the 2026 LeRoy Collins Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient!
