Biography
Sharon Mignon Stephen-Buitrago was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, WI. As immigrants to the US, she (aged 5) and her brother (aged 7) traveled to Louisiana with their parents. She had to adapt quickly to the culture and the unspoken rules of the South. She graduated with honors from Family Christian Academy. She earned her BA in Elementary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University while raising two sons as a single mom. Sharon continued her education and received her M.ED in Education Technology and Leadership. This degree almost did not occur due to Hurricane Katrina. After several leadership roles, she decided to complete the certificate for School Leaders K-12 at Florida Atlantic University. She has received numerous accolades for her leadership abilities in schools and local community outreach. Sharon balances her life by spending time with her husband and their child. Her oldest son graduated from college in May and the middle son is actively serving in the US Navy.
